East AU flooding Feb-March 2022.
In late Feb-early March 2022 due to warm south pacific weather, and an inflow of West South Pacific moisture into the Western Tasman seas area a flooding event was created in the QLD areas that was to later include other areas of the eastern board AU regions affecting the regions with Heavy Concentrated Rains and Strong thunderstorms.
Areas affected in late Feb 2022 included Lismore, Brisbane, Gympie, and Murwillumbah. AU meteorological experts explained the AU weather event as a "extreme weather event" that began as a heavy storm system in the north of Brisbane and then tracked south to brisbane on track to the other eastern AU regions in Late Feb-Early March 2022.
An extraordinary record amount of rainfall was recorded over 5-8 hours in areas of QLD and North east AU as the slow moving system best described as a inland "cyclone" inundated East AU lowlands with rising floodwaters, as rivers and waterways burst levies that inundated city and regional towns with up to 5-8m of water. Global warming has been touted as a effect in this instance.
With Australians resilient help in the form of flood evacuations from willing public volunteers, and civil servants was at hand although the effects of the flood where overwhelming with one resident explaining "The waters kept rising" with tears in her eyes. Recovery will take time with patience and focus required as no doubt government support and the private insurance sector being brought to the fore. Centerlink may provide extra assistance when needed-with the AU govt giving out small cash amounts to tie affected persons over for the interim.
