Hunga Tonga Haapi Eruption Early Jan 2022

In early year 2022 mid January the South Pacific island nation of Tonga was affected by the Tonga Hunga Haapai eruption. Over the years a underwater volcano has formed in the nth west area of Tonga's main island and city of Nukualofa.

These underwater volcanoes are the result of tectonic plates sliding under another. As magma and lava flows underwater these accumulate over the years and build to form islands with Volcanoes as the main attraction.

In early year 2022 the Hunga Haaapi volcano erupted after previous days of elevated activity sending a massive ash plume vertically skyward and tremendous soundwave that was captured and evident from space via satellite imagery.

After the initial eruption a vertical ash plume affected Tonga turning "day to night".

Immediately on the minutes after the eruption villagers where alert at the coastal areas to the dangers of a Tsunami and began to seek higher ground and or tracking inland.

The aftershocks set up a tsunami warning in the south pacific regions that affected afar as Phillipinnes, Japan, Peru and NZ.

Tonga is now well underway into a recovery operation.
